This article aims to estimate and analyze the impacts of the main determinants of poverty in Brazil between 2012 and 2023. Based on a unidimensional definition of poverty, measured through per capita household income, and using annual microdata from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), a panel data regression model was estimated for Brazil’s 27 federative units. The results indicate that labor market participation was the most influential factor in reducing poverty. Additionally, increases in the average years of schooling among the adult population and in the proportion of white individuals were also associated with a decline in poverty levels. Conversely, rising income inequality was found to be positively related to the proportion of people living in poverty.
