Abstract

The Grande Dourados region is considered an important agricultural zone of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, whose economic pressures on the priority areas of environmental protection are remarkable considering the expansion of the plantations of cane sugar. From the time-space analysis in a Geographic Information System was possible to investigate the process of expansion of areas planted with sugar cane (vintages 2005, 2006 and 2007) on protected areas, was detected the advance in two cities in the region, accounted for 8,100.09 hectares and 5,329.66 hectares of sugar cane plantation in the area of sustainable development and environmental indicators were proposed as a tool for managing regional development.
