The aim of this study is to characterize the housing deficit and the socioeconomic and urban conditions according to the indicators of Brazilian municipalities, since it behaves differently from region to region. The North region has the largest relative deficit, while the South region has the smallest. This paper seeks to contribute to the ongoing debate taking into account the multiple configurations of urban dimensions and housing structure. Therefore, statistical information from the 2010 Demographic Census and two techniques are used: Exploratory Factor Analysis and Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA - fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis). The conclusive results indicate that a high socioeconomic development associated with a high provision of infrastructure and low urban growth leads to a low housing deficit. Therefore, Brazilian municipalities that have been directing public policies to improve the socioeconomic indicators of the population and urban infrastructure could contribute to reducing the housing deficit in Brazil.
