Abstract

The economic dynamism and demographic size of many territories transform them into investment hubs, helping to develop small businesses. In Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais, the steel sector has underpinned changes in the dynamics of the territory. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the territorial dynamics in the development of small businesses in this municipality. It adopted a qualitative approach and used content analysis to analyze the primary data. Interviews were conducted with 15 small business owners and 5 representatives of public and private organizations. The territorial dynamics identified were the specialization of workers' skills and innovative improvements. Small business owners were concerned about the concentration of capital in the hands of large companies. It was also observed that organizational and political actions in the territory are determining factors for economic development.
